Why "Ruamano"?

Ruamano is a guardian of the ocean in Māori tradition — the one that brought people who went overboard safely home. We named the company after the guardian.

RUAMANO SOS app showing the red SOS button, emergency contacts and position
Integrated SOS app and service

One red button. Someone answers.

Hold SOS for 3 seconds, or press the red side button with cold, wet hands. The app sends your position to the RUAMANO SOS service, which alerts your emergency contacts and the relevant authorities and stays in contact as your emergency communicator. Where your phone supports satellite messaging it works with no cell signal.

Add your emergency contacts in the app — family, skipper, coast guard. When you press SOS, the RUAMANO SOS service alerts them with your position and keeps them updated.

Hold SOS in the app for 3 seconds
Or press the red side button on the case

Satellite messaging depends on your phone and carrier.

Not a substitute for Emergency SOS, an EPIRB/PLB or VHF Channel 16. Read the safety statement.

Is it really worth $199?

Straight answers to what mariners actually ask us.

It's just a phone case — why $199?

It's not a case, it's insurance. A phone overboard sinks — gone for good, $800 to $1,200 every time. The SafeCase floats it, charges it, and calls for help. It pays for itself the first time it saves your phone, and it costs less than half of a dedicated rescue beacon.

I'm careful. I won't drop it.

Everyone is — until the one wave you didn't see. The strobe and SOS aren't about being careless; they're for the moment you or your phone go over, which nobody plans for. Ask anyone who's lost one how careful they were.

I already have a floating pouch.

A $15 pouch floats and does nothing else — no battery, no strobe, no SOS, and it won't survive a season on a working deck. The SafeCase is built to be clipped on, dropped, soaked and trusted with a $1,200 phone.

Does it really float with my big phone?

Yes. It's engineered to float screen-up with a phone up to 300 grams — the biggest Pro Max or Ultra included — so you can see it and grab it.

Does the SOS actually work with no signal?

Where your phone supports satellite texting, yes — the app sends your position by satellite. It's not a replacement for an EPIRB or VHF Channel 16; it's one more line of help that's always in your pocket. We tell you this straight so there are no surprises when it matters.

Why trust a new brand with rescue?

You don't have to pay for the service to find out — 12 months are included free. And it alerts the people you choose: your family, your crew, the coast guard. You set your contacts; we make sure they're reached.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Will it float with my phone in it?

Yes. The SafeCase floats screen-up with a compatible USB-C phone up to 6.9 inches fitted.

Which phones does it fit?

Fits USB-C phones up to 6.9 inches (max 163 × 78 × 9 mm) — iPhone 15, 16 and 17 (all sizes, including Pro Max); Samsung Galaxy S21 to S26 including Ultra; Google Pixel 6 to 10 including Pro; and most other USB-C Android phones up to that size. Use the phone without its own case.Lightning-port iPhones (iPhone 14 and earlier) are not supported.

How long does the battery last?

5000 mAh / 18.5 Wh battery. Charges your phone through the case: about one full extra charge, roughly 20–24 more hours of phone use. In the water the case keeps 40% in reserve for the strobe and locator beacon: about 2.5 days of night-time strobe on the reserve, about 6 days on a full battery. Recharges with USB-C.

What do the strobe and battery do once the case is wet?

Once the case is in water, phone charging stops at 40%, so the rest of the battery powers the strobe and the Bluetooth locator beacon for days.

Does SOS work without signal?

On a phone that supports satellite texting, SOS works with no cell signal. Otherwise the SOS is sent as soon as signal returns. Satellite messaging depends on your phone and carrier.

Is it a life jacket?

No. The RUAMANO SafeCase is not a life jacket or personal flotation device. See the Safety page for the full statement.
